Donald Trump to sell contents of Scottish hotel ahead of £200m refurbishment
The real-estate mogul has appointed Wilson’s Auctions to oversee a public auction of fixtures and fittings including flat screen plasma televisions, beds, mattresses and chandeliers.
Trump purchased the 149-room golf course, spa and hotel in 2014 from Dubai-based Leisurecorp for an undisclosed sum.
He said his plan was to turn the hotel, which underwent its last multi-million pound makeover prior to hosting the 2009 Open, in to the ‘finest and most luxurious hotel in all of Europe'.
Talking at the Ayrshire Chamber dinner in March this year, Trump said of the refurbishment: "At the conclusion of our hotel rebuilding, we will have exquisite new suites, magnificent ballrooms, restaurants and meeting facilities plus a sprawling and luxurious spa.
“When completed, Trump Turnberry will be the finest resort of its kind anywhere in the world."
The businessesman made headlines earlier this month when his plans to install a 25 ft. high Roman Chariot fountain outside the hotel were approved, despite concerns from planning officials at South Ayrshire Council that the structure was 'excessive in height' and not in keeping with the design of the hotel - which is a listed building.
The auction will take place at the Trump Turnberry Resort on the 1 October at 4pm with viewings on Wednesday 30 September between 5pm - 9pm and on the day of the auction between 10am - 4pm.
