Herefordshire: The cheapest place in the UK to buy a pint
The average price of a pint of beer in the county is £3.10, 82 pence cheaper than London, the most expensive at £3.92.
The 2016 edition of the guide, out today, puts the average price for a pint in Britain at £3.46, a rise of 15 pence on last year. However, the annual survey also found that more pubs were brewing their own beer, lowering costs with own-brew typically costing £2.98 a pint.
This year's edition of the Guide also found that one in seven of Britain's pubs are now being run by licensees aged between 25-35.
Good Pub Guide editor Fiona Stapley said the influx of younger licensees had not been deterred by the turbulent nature of the industry and were 'rejecting uninspiring office jobs for the chance to run their own business',
She said: "These younger landlords are drawing in younger customers, curious to see what might be different. The interest in craft beers is booming and the niche spirit trade is burgeoning with small companies springing up across the country producing artisan gin, vodka and whisky. These new, younger publicans are absolutely in tune with such trends, as well as being up to speed with today’s fitter, leaner mood and the demands for fair-priced healthy food.
"The result is that these young publicans are re-energising the whole industry, making the days of decrepit boozers with dull beer and freezer-pack food a thing of the past."
