The Plough to invest £750k in expansion plans

The Plough in Harborne, Birmingham, has announced plans to invest £750k into the business to help it build a second floor with two private rooms and extend the ground floor by 40-covers.

The extension will also include a new pizza kitchen and coffee bar, as well as a new bar with a selection of artisan whiskies and craft beers.

The combined 30-covers upstairs private dining rooms will have flat screen TVs, wi-fi and private audio systems. The rooms can be cleared to cater for 40-people if standing and are the first-of-their-kind in Harborne’s pub landscape.

Adam Johnson, director of The Plough, told BigHospitality that the changes they are making are based on customer feedback, demand and a desire to “evolve with the customer” to keep the concept as fresh as possible.

"We’re at capacity for every sitting at the moment, we’re having to turn reservations and events away so we’re pretty confident the investment will pay off,” he said.

"Our stone baked pizza menu is hugely popular and we’ve carved a reputation for our coffee (we were listed in the ’Top 50 coffee shops in the UK’ by The Independent) so introducing a new pizza kitchen and coffee bar felt like not only a natural way to cater for growing demand but also a way to ease congestion on the bar and in the existing kitchen which gets extremely busy.”
