Springboard and BHA to champion housekeeping careers
Springboard and the British Hospitality Association (BHA) will host the first ever Big Hospitality Conversation event focused on careers in housekeeping at The Dorchester hotel on 7 September.

Running as part of Springboard’s Housekeeping Careers Festival, A Day to Sparkle, the event will bring together housekeeping professionals from across the UK to promote job opportunities, apprenticeships and work placements to students and job seekers.

“The Housekeeping Careers Festival is all about changing perceptions of careers in housekeeping and hospitality,” said Springboard chief executive Anne Pierce MBE.

“We aim to show that it’s not just about making beds or cleaning, there are a variety of career opportunities that lead to great roles. Management level jobs are not far away for people who show hard work and a willingness to learn.”

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) state that over 600,000 jobs will be available in hospitality by 2020.

However, UKCES estimates that ongoing industry skills shortages will see employers struggling to fill 32 per cent of vacancies – including those in housekeeping and accommodation management.

Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of the BHA, said: “Housekeeping is one of the career paths in hospitality offering an opportunity to be part of a dynamic, growing and competitive sector with great prospects for growth.”

The Big Hospitality Conversation has brought together more than 2,000 business to offer job and apprentice opportunities for young people through the careers event.

Over 43,000 job opportunities have been created through the events so far and the aim is for the hospitality industry to create up to 60,000 jobs for young people by 2016.
