Massimo Bottura to bring Osteria Francescana to Sotheby's London

Italian chef Massimo Bottura has announced plans to bring his three Michelin-starred restaurant Osteria Francescana to Sotheby's London this month.

From 27 to 29 June the chef, whose restaurant in Modena was listed as number three in last year's World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards (the 2015 version will be revealed tonight - 1st June), plans to serve up a £250 seven-course tasting menu within the auction house's contemporary art galleries.

The pop-up restaurant has been designed to 'provoke a dialogue between food and art' with diners to be served dishes inspired by contemporary artworks while looking at works by artists who have influenced Bottura's conceptual approach to cooking.

Dishes on offer include the Damien Hirst-inspired Beautiful Psychedelic Spin-painted veal, not flame grilled – a beef fillet, first marinated in milk, and then served with tri colour sauces purposefully spun like the artist’s spin-paintings  and Oops! I Dropped the Lemon Tart - a homage to Ai Weiwei’s radical work Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn. The final course, Camouflage: Hare in the Woods is inspired by Pablo Picasso who saw Cubism in a painted military truck.

Bottura, who last year denied rumours that he would relocate Osteria Francescana to London permanently, said: "Cooking is about not only the quality of ingredients, but also the quality of ideas.

"I am crazy about this project with Sotheby's. It will be thrilling to have my food surrounded by such exciting art."
