Liverpool landmark to become restaurant, bar and events space

Wavertree Town Hall, which was built in 1847 and most recently run as a pub, will become Murphy’s Town Hall Tavern following the purchase by Conor O’Donovan.

A reopening is planned for 17 June.

The refurbishment will create a 50-seat restaurant that will offer a selection of contemporary and classic dishes, and a 45-seat bar.

Additionally, two 130-capacity function suites will host private parties such as weddings, birthdays and christenings, as well as corporate events.

Something new​

O’Donovan, who also runs Liverpool’s Sefton Park Hotel as well as O’Connor’s Bar & Grill, also in Sefton Park, said he was excited to bring something new to Wavertree High Street.

He said: “Being one of Liverpool’s most historic areas, rich in culture and diversity, the High Street is renowned for its urban-village appeal and beautiful buildings.

“With that in mind, we believe that the overall offering and Murphy’s will make a great new addition to the lively location.”

O’Donovan added: “Having witnessed an increased demand for more local venues that offer a holistic approach, we feel that we will help to fill and gap in the market, and that the Town Hall will become a destination of choice for people across the city.”

A Grade II listed building, the venue was originally built as the headquarters of the Wavertree Local Board of Health and was designed by local architect John Elliot Reeve.
