The development at the Lodge Hotel in Putney – which also includes 25 bedrooms – is aimed at companies that have a heavy Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focus.
Opening in the summer, it will take the overall number of bedrooms at the hotel to 77.
The events space, which will host up to 200 guests, is to have its own private boardroom and terrace. It will also include fibre optic Wi-Fi and 60 inch LED screens.
The design will be in keeping with the hotel’s ‘classic London’ theme, while also building on a New York urban ideal.
Development priority
Owner Ben Hirschfeld, whose family has run the Lodge for the past 45 years, claimed to have made sustainability a priority within the development.
He said: “The aim from the start was to engineer a building that is 40 per cent more energy efficient than latest building regulations, embracing best practice when it comes to sustainable build, with products and every design feature taking this into consideration.
Hirschfield added: “When the design and build are sustainably considered and intelligent, the payback is considerable – for guests, clients and the property, as well as for the ecology surrounding the hotel.”
Building within the remits of BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology), the Lodge’s highlights include installing sedum roofing, which will absorb rainwater and reduce surface run-off – helping to both heat and cool the building.
Meanwhile, solar panels on the building will mean the electricity output in the bedrooms is kept as low as possible.
Guest rooms
New guest rooms feature large steel windows, leather and cement effect wall coverings, wooden slated headboards and pinstriped carpets.
Each room is individually designed with bespoke furniture crafted by a local designer.
The hotel’s wider environmental policy includes improving the biodiversity of the area by planting different grass species and, where possible, using responsibly-sourced materials alongside recycling building waste.
