The online review site today (19 May) announced the recipients of its 2015 Certificate of Excellence awards, presented to companies which receive consistently good ratings on the site.
A total of 40,464 hospitality operators in the UK have been recognised this year, up from 31,325 in 2014.
London is home to more award winning businesses than any other city in the world, with 3210 companies being recognised and 344 entering the Hall of Fame after receiving Certificates of Excellence for five consecutive years.
TripAdvisor has previously cited the rise of online review sites as key to improving business standards in hotels and restaurants.
“By putting a spotlight on businesses that are focused on delivering great service to customers, TripAdvisor not only helps drive an improvement to hospitality standards around the world, it also gives businesses both large and small the ability to shine and stand out from the competition," said Marc Charron, president of TripAdvisor for Business.
UK success
Edinburgh, Glasgow and Blackpool also topped the list of UK destinations receiving Certificate of Excellence awards, with 732, 457, and 351 respectively.
The Scottish capital also featured the second highest number of Hall of Fame winners in the UK with 145, while York ranked third with 61.
The findings mirror those of TripAdvisor's 2015 Travellers Choice Awards, which found that the North of England beat the South in terms of top rated hotels and restaurants.
