Klaus Kabelitz will join Belmond in July from Le Richemond, a Dorchester Collection hotel in Geneva he has managed since 2012.
Prior to Le Richemond, Kabelitz worked in London for 14 years – initially as house manager of Claridge’s, then as general manager of the Berkeley for nine years.
He began his career working at a number of Hilton hotels, before joining Four Seasons in London and then Berlin.
John Scott, president and chief executive of Belmond, said: “We are pleased that Klaus is joining the Belmond team as general manager of Belmond Cadogan Hotel.”
“He has deep experience operating luxurious and celebrated hotels from his time at the Berkeley and Claridge’s in London, as well as at Le Richemond Genève and Four Seasons Berlin.
“I am confident that under his management, Belmond Cadogan Hotel will reopen as one of Europe’s most sought-after hotels.”
Room reduction
Owned by Cadogan Estates and operated by Belmond, the hotel will reopen next year with refurbished public areas and a reconfigured room layout, reducing from 64 rooms to 54 in order to accommodate demand from luxury travellers for larger suites.
Kabelitz will also manage the Belmond-run Durley House, an all-suite, private-residence-style property located within the same block of Sloane Street as the Cadogan Hotel.
He said: “I am thrilled to be joining Belmond, a collection of hotels and travel experiences I have long admired.
“It is an honour to be entrusted with bringing to life the Cadogan Hotel’s storied history, entwined as it is with London’s past, and blending that tradition with Belmond’s modern standards of service and expertly intuitive team that will ensure Belmond Cadogan Hotel rapidly becomes one of the Company’s flagship properties.”
