Bar and nightclub operators join together to launch Night Time Industries Association

Operators from within the bar, nightclub and restaurant sectors have come together to form a new trade association which aims to be 'The Voice of the Night Time Industries'.

The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) is being led by Alan D Miller who co-founded London's Old Truman Brewery and was chief executive of The Vibe Bar before it closed last year, Steve Ball of The Columbo Group, Jonathan Downey of The Rushmore Group and Alex Proud of The Proud Group.

Together, they aim to provide a voice and support for companies which operate late at night - from bars and restaurants, to music venues and nightclubs - which they say make £66bn in revenue per year and employ 6 per cent of the country's workforce.

“We want to provide a voice for those in the Night Time Industries who range from the single venue operator to those with numerous venues. We need our fellow owners and operators to sign up with us so that we can be an even stronger voice in the UK. This is the first step of creating something that can be enormously influential," said Miller.

The NTIA says there is a need to protect night time industries as - particularly in the case of clubs and music venues - they often provide a starting point for new musical talent and it fears 'creativity being stifled' without proper outlets for it to develop in.

As well as provide a voice for the industries it represents the NTIA says it will lobby and campaign to get existing use brought into planning law to protect existing venues from negative effects of residential development, commission research highlighting the benefits of the night time economy and provide a framework for sharing best practice information.

More information on how operators can sign up can be found on the NTIA website.
