Restaurant start-up project The Kitchens to launch at Manchester's Spinningfields

New restaurant start-up venture The Kitchens will launch at Spinningfields in Manchester next month, giving six new food and drink entrepreneurs the chance to test their concepts out on the public.

Hundreds of hopefuls put forward their ideas to Springfields owner developer Allied London and a Kitchens board of industry experts last year for the chance to win one of six spaces within the building for their business.

Now finalists Bangers & Bacon, Chaat Cart, Hip Hop Chip Shop, Mumma Schnitzel, Wholesome and Raw and Yakumama, who have worked with industry experts to design their concept, build their brands and develop menus, are ready to see their ideas take shape when they open for business on 21 May.

Michael Ingall, chief executive of Allied London said: “The Kitchens is a truly collaborative environment; a new concept to the city featuring communal indoor and outdoor seating areas, world class interiors and most importantly finalists cooking out of their kitchens, serving straight from the pass to the diner."

Over the next year the six finalists will continue to be judged by Allied London and The Kitchens board in a range of areas, from their turnover, to the success of their brand and overall concept. One winning trader will get the chance to continue with investment from Allied London.

“Spinningfields is entering into a new generation of international development with its food and drink offering alone fast becoming globally recognised. The Kitchens will form the backbone of our new neighbourhood Leftbank, encapsulating its new, dynamic and forward thinking environment," said Ingall.

“We’ve seen how successful independent operators can be in Spinningfields, and with the right concept and delivery, these vendors could have a bright future on the estate.”
