Dive bar inspired diner Brooklyn Social coming to Derby in April
Set over three floors, the Brooklyn Social will offer locally-sourced burgers along with premium cocktails and imported beers.
The concept has been created by Derby-born Tom Warner, who found inspiration for the venue while travelling in America.
The 27-year-old said his time in the US opened his eyes to the culture of dive bars and the casual, relaxed establishments popular throughout the country.
Work is currently underway to refurbish the venue’s Grade-II listed building, which is located in Saddler Gate – part of Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.
Building revival
Many of the building’s original features are being brought back to life and will be mixed with a backdrop of neon lit street art, antiques and vintage furniture. There are also plans for an exposed working cellar and a vintage photo-booth.
According to Warner, the Brooklyn Social will bring something “a little bit different” to the heart of Derby’s independent Cathedral Quarter.
He said: “This is such an exciting project to be part of and I hope people will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the day time and grab a burger and a beer with their friends and then join us in the evening for a more energetic vibe.”
Last month, a US-themed Bar Sport franchise opened at the site of the former Rhode Island Diner on Derby’s Queen Street, following a £500,000 refurbishment.
