Five Guys is set to open its first Southampton restaurant after securing a unit in the city’s WestQuay Watermark development.

The American burger chain will take a 368 sq m unit in Hammerson’s £70 city centre development, which is scheduled to open as Southampton’s ‘new dining and leisure hub’ in late 2016.

Five Guys UK chief executive John Eckbert, said: "Southampton's city centre was identified immediately as we planned the expansion of the Five Guys brand.

“It is a highly successful destination popular with consumers from throughout the region which creates the perfect opportunity for Five Guys.

“We look forward to offering our high quality products to hungry customers whether they choose a little hamburger or go all out with a double patty, signature Five Guys style fries and a drink from Coca Cola's legendary freestyle machine that boasts 250,000 ways to order a drink."

WestQuay Watermark

WestQuay Watermark is located immediately adjacent to the WestQuay Shopping Centre in Southampton city centre.

The development, which has received £7m from the government’s regional growth fund, will include a 10 screen cinema, a dining area with up to 20 restaurants and a major public piazza.

Nandos, which is already well established on WestQuay’s dining floor, has also secured a 318 sq m unit in the new development. Wahaca, Zizzi and Byron signed up to the development in Janury, with all three making their debut in the city when it opens next year.

Sarah Fox, head of restaurants and leisure at Hammerson said: “Being able to add Five Guys and Nando’s to the list of restaurants we’ve already secured for WestQuay Watermark is a great result.

“We remain focused on attracting new and exciting restaurants to WestQuay Watermark so that we are able to meet the demands of today’s discerning shoppers for a variety of high quality dining options.”

Five Guys

Five Guys has pursued aggressive expansion since opening its first UK store in July 2013 and has now has 20 sites across London and other major cities.

The chain hopes to open 22 sites in the UK this year and has already secured seven – with openings in Nottingham, Cardiff and Glasgow imminent.

According to BigHospitality’s sister publication M&C Report, the company will launch a breakfast menu at its site in London’s Argyll Street tomorrow morning.
