Twr y Felin luxury hotel to open in Wales
The hotel will open in a restored and extended windmill which dates back to 1806.
Twr y Felin will have 20 en-suite bedrooms, a number of which will be in the tower. It will also have a bar, a restaurant, and a lounge where both guests and visitors will be able to take lunch, dinner and afternoon tea.
There will also be a small observatory on the top floor which will offer views across St David’s Peninsula and the surrounding bays and islands.
The property is the third from the Retreats Group, which already operates two other holiday venues within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park; Penrhiw Hotel and Roch Castle.
Founder of the Retreats Group Keith Griffiths said: “We are looking forward to growing on the success of Twr y Felin Hotel’s sister venues, Penrhiw Hotel and Roch Castle, by opening our first fully operational hotel.
“It has been such a privilege to conserve and develop these important historical features of the Pembrokeshire landscape and heritage.”
A tourist attraction
Twr y Felin is located in an important tourist destination, close to Caerfai Bay and part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Retreats Group was therefore able to secure support to restore the hotel from the Welsh government’s Tourism Investment Support scheme.
Ken Skates, the Welsh government’s deputy minister for culture, sport and tourism, said: “I’m delighted that the Welsh government has been able to support this development with Tourism Investment Support.
“The building’s history and character will make for highly distinctive accommodation with a unique story to tell, and the emphasis on quality gives Twr y Felin the potential to become a reputation-changing hotel which can create new demand for Pembrokeshire and for Wales.”
In addition to its location and history, the hotel will also appeal to tourists by joining the UK Art Hotels group, and will display both paintings and sculptures. A number of UK urban artists will be represented at Twr y Felin, including Phlash, Mr Jago, Xenz and Remi Ruff, Harry Adams and Pure Evil. It will also feature Welsh artists such as John Uzzell Edwards, Brendan Burns and ceramist Adam Buick.
