Details released for Caring’s Ivy Market Grill

Details have been released for Richard Caring’s new restaurant The Ivy Market Grill, which opens in London’s Covent Garden next week.

The Ivy Market Grill will be an all-day café and restaurant with a ‘home-from-home’ feel.

The restaurant will stretch over two floors and serves a mix of modern British comfort food and international dishes from a menu put together by head chef Sean Burbidge.

The Ivy Market Grill will open to the public on 24 November, and although the booking lines opened a week in advance, half the tables will be dedicated to ‘walk-ins’.

Concept and design

To create the concept behind The Ivy Market Grill, regulars at The Ivy were asked if they enjoyed coming to The Ivy for a quick bite pre or post theatre. The majority stated that The Ivy was somewhere they wanted to spend more time without having to rush.

The Ivy Market Grill reflects this research and is intended to complement The Ivy, with access open all day. It intends to appeal to residents, visitors and workers in the area who are able to drop in for a ‘quick fix’.

The design of the venue is intended to help shape the atmosphere and takes its influence from the late 19th century industrial age. It features mosaic floor tiles, antique brass chandeliers, distressed paintwork and marble table tops in the café area. An orange and pewter bar acts as the centrepiece.

Food and drink offering

At The Ivy Market Grill, Burbidge has put together menus for breakfast, elevenses, a la carte lunch and dinner, pre and post theatre, afternoon tea and weekend brunch.

The breakfast menu includes choices such as avocado, tomato and sesame truffled eggs, griddled buttermilk pancakes, and The Market Grill Vegetarian Breakfast with grilled halloumi, flat mushrooms and watercress. Lunch and dinner dishes include crispy duck salad, lobster cocktail, rack of lamb and whole lemon sole.

A traditional afternoon tea will be available, as will an all-day sandwich menu and a range of desserts.

A ‘straightforward’ cocktail menu will offer drinks includin Inigo Jones’ Fizz (Fragola Tosolini, wild strawberry, basic and black pepper, topped with fizz) and Henrietta Maria Treacle (rum treacle with Havana Especial, Amaro Averna and a dash of fig honey and orange bitters). There will also be an extensive list of craft beers and pale ales.
