Oetker Collection to manage The Lanesborough

The Oetker Collection will manage The Lanesborough hotel in London when it re-opens in spring 2015, the group’s first hotel in the UK.

Luxury London hotel The Lanesborough has been closed since December 2013 as it undergoes some major renovation work before reopening as part of the Oetker Collection next year. The building’s renovation will reflect its signature style by late interior designer Alberto Pinto.

The Lanesborough will have 93 rooms and suites, extensive dining options and a spa. The Oetker Collection intends to re-open it as a ‘Masterpiece Hotel’.

Chief executive of the Oetker Collection Frank Marrenbach said: “The Lanesborough is clearly a landmark within the European hospitality landscape with an exceptional heritage and a strong and unique identity, and it will fit perfectly in our Collection of Masterpiece Hotels.

“The partnership between Oetker Collection and The Lanesborough provides a great potential for us to bring our signature service to guests who have a passion for living.

Dining and bar facilities

The Lanesborough will offer guests a number of dining choices. Its main restaurant will be Apsleys, which offers a ‘refined dining experience’ from chef Heinz Beck and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also on offer will be The Withdrawing Room, the Library Bar, and the Garden Room cigar lounge.

There will also be seven private dining rooms which have each been individually designed. The largest of these will be able to accommodate 180 guests for a large event.

European hospitality

Despite its new ownership the Lanesborough will still be run by managing director Geoffrey Gelardi when it re-opens in the spring. Gelardi has been in his role since 1990, and believes the hotel can return to its ‘premier position’ in the market after re-opening.

“We are delighted to join the Oetker Collection, which embodies the finest of traditional European hospitality,” Gelardi said.

“We think our guests will love the new design and style of service when The Lanesborough re-opens in spring, maintaining its continued success since 1991. After 18 months of complete renovation, our aim is to resume our premier position in the London market.”
