Soupe du Jour to open second London site

Takeaway and restaurant concept Soupe du Jour will open its second London site in the City on 4 November.

The opening of the second site comes only a few months after the concept’s debut site opened in Soho, the brainchild of co-founders Julia Victoria Ebert, Charles Paillé de Rivière and Daniel Auner.

The second Soupe du Jour will be located at 38 Houndsditch, between Aldgate and Liverpool Street tube stations. It will be open six days a week from 10:30am to 5:30pm and intends to catch the lunchtime market. The site will have a seating area so customers can sit in, and there will also be a takeaway option.

Co-founder Daniel Auner felt there was a lack of competition for good soup in the area.

“I feel that we can offer the kind of soup lunch option that I was always searching for when I worked in the City,” he said.

Food offering

The menu in the City site will reflect that of the Soho store and will include a number of fresh soups and accompaniments. It will be created by Michelin star-trained chef Maxmilian Tegler.

Soup du Jour will use seasonal produce sourced from local farmers and suppliers to create its soups. Its menu will have five fixed classic soups, including staples like ‘the tomato’ and ‘the carrot’. There will also be a ‘daily soup’.

Each month two new ‘your favourite’ soups will be added to the menu. As well as these soups being seasonal, Soup du Jour intends to get feedback from customers and allow them to choose what will be on the menu.

The soup shop will also serve accompaniments including German bread and gluten-free bread made by artisan bakers WAGfree. There will also be a range of different toppings choices to add to the soup served.
