JJ Food Service launches gluten-free chips and traceable meat

JJ Food Service is moving into the restaurant, pub and hotel sectors with a new range of gluten-free chips, as well as traceable British beef and Welsh lamb.

Super Crisp Chips

The Super Crisp Chips are made with sunflower oil in a gluten-free environment, aiming to help eateries tap into the growing gluten-free consumer market and comply with the upcoming change in allergen labelling regulations.

Available in three varieties: Julienne (7mm), Super Crips (9mm) and Steak Cut (19mm), the chips are also GMO and allergen-free, and feature a coating that gives them a crispy texture while retaining heat for longer.

JJ’s chief product officer Ali Guvemli said: “We sell a variety of potato products to restaurants and caterers, and have noticed a significant increase in demand for gluten-free. The market is worth more than £355m in the UK and is expected to hit £519m by 2016 - it’s not a trend that’s going away.”

British beef and Welsh lamb

JJ Food Service has also launched traceable British beef and Welsh lamb to help operators deal with growing customer concerns about provenance.

The beef range is sourced from within the Rose County area of Lancashire and approved by EBLEX, Red Tractor and the Farm Quality Assurance. Cuts available include topside beef, rump tail, flank steak and rib eye steak – all of which can be traced back to the individual producer.

The Welsh lamb range has the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) stamp, assuring consumers that lambs were born and reared in Wales and that the suppliers comply with government regulations on the transportation and slaughter of livestock.

Guvemli added: “Consumers are becoming increasingly interested in where their food has come from and whether it’s free range, sustainably sourced, gluten-free, animal welfare-approved etc. With our new fresh meat range, we are helping restaurants and pubs to respond.”

Both meat products are available in JJ’s Enfield, Sidcup, Basingstoke, Doncaster and Bristol branches.
