Porky’s BBQ comes to Shoreditch

American barbecue restaurant Porky’s BBQ is expanding quickly by opening its third London site in Shoreditch, having opened its second site in Bankside earlier this summer.

The new Porky’s BBQ will be opening in East London’s Boxpark this October following on from the success of the restaurant in its original Camden site and its second site in Bankside, which opened in June.

The site will be 1200sq.ft in size and have 50 covers, with the restaurant taking up four units in the Boxpark shopping and dining pop-up mall which is completely built from shipping containers.

Porky’s roll-out

The concept for Porky’s BBQ was put together by husband and wife Simon and Joy Brigg, who were inspired by their travels around America. They plan to have ten Porky’s BBQ restaurants within two years, and are being advised in their expansion plans by Restaurant Property.

Restaurant Property’s Mark Calder said: “Boxpark has become one of the world’s most creative markets with a reputation for showcasing some of the coolest new concepts. It is a great pitch for Porky’s, which is stylishly fun with a great tasting offering.

“The vision has been delivered incredibly successfully and we are currently looking for more sites in areas like Soho, Smithfield, Kings Cross and Clapham, where there are vibrant restaurant and social scenes where we know Porky’s will thrive.”

Simon Brigg said: “We were always hoping to open our third site soon but have been pleasantly surprised to find one so quickly and are very excited to be bringing our authentic Memphis-style barbecue to Shoreditch’s Boxpark.”

In a previous interview with BigHospitality Brigg told us that they hope to create a small restaurant chain, or perhaps one day a bigger chain, but for the moment intend to keep the restaurants in London where the couple live.

Boxpark site

Like the other sites, Porky’s in Shoreditch will take inspiration from its design from the music and feel of the Southern US states. Music will be important as usual, with the restaurant having a playlist of classic country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll songs. The usual industrial décor of the restaurants will be in-keeping with the shipping container mall.

The menu will be uncomplicated, focusing on pork ribs that have been smoked over hickory wood. The site will also have the menu addition of pulled pork sandwiches. Drinks wise, Porky’s will have a list of whiskey cocktails and over twenty bourbons available for customers.

The Shoreditch Porky’s BBQ will be located at Units 47-51, Boxpark, and will open in late October.
