Marcus Wareing to open Tredwell's later this month
Named after the butler in Agatha Christie’s novel ‘The Seven Dials Mystery, Tredwell’s will offer a more casual approach to dining than Wareing’s existing venues, Marcus at The Berkley and The Gilbert Scott.
Head chef Andew Ward, who trained under Bruce Poole at Chez Bruce and spent two years at La Trompette, has created a menu embracing a variety of global cuisines using British produce.
Dishes will include sticky smoked Goosnargh chicken thighs; Harissa glazed aubergine, peanuts, coriander and chilli; and Slow cooked, smoked beef shortrib with baked beans. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes and salads will also be on offer, as well as a range of snacks such as crispy prawns with fennel and fennel salt; and polenta fries with smoked tomato dip. Deserts will include chocolate pot with Campari ice; and coconut, pineapple, mint and lime.
The restaurant will be arranged over three floors, with lots of natural light and a casual interior featuring racing green leather banquette and booth seating. A bar on the lower ground floor will offer pre-dinner drinks, with a separate bar on the ground floor offering space to eat.
Dav Eames, group bar manager at The Gilbert Scott, has created a selection of cocktails which nod to the Christie novels, such as ‘A Pocketful or Rye’ and ‘Sparkling Cyanide’, while Michael Deschamp, executive sommelier at Marcus Wareing Restaurants, has created a bespoke wine list.
Backseat
For the first time, Wareing will take a step back from operations at the restaurant, instead trusting a team led by group operations director Chantelle Nicholson to take charge of the project.
“Tredwell’s marks the beginning of an exciting stage of growth,” said Wareing.
“I am so proud of the team we have created, and with Chantelle at the helm I am able to step back and allow their skills and experience to drive the project forward, making a mark on the London dining scene. The future of our company is down to the team to create something for their future growth too.”
Nicholson added: “We are very excited to be part of the buzz of the West End, in particular the niche area of Seven Dials.
“Tredwell’s is going to be all about offering something for everyone. It’s going to have great food and an awesome cocktail list, with a fantastic team of people on board - it will be a lot of fun!
