Details released for The Beaumont, Mayfair
With the new hotel Corbin and King aim to invoke the feel of ‘pre-war’ Mayfair, hoping to create a grand yet intimate atmosphere. The Beaumont will have 73 rooms which includes 23 suites, one of these being a presidential suite and the other inside an inhabitable sculpture by Antony Gormley.
Other facilities offered by the hotel will include three restaurants; an American bar, a classic grill restaurant and a Bar and Lounge for residents. There will also be meeting facilities including a boardroom and private dining room, and a Hammam spa and gym for residents.
It is the first attempt at opening a hotel by Corbin and King, who run a number of restaurants including The Wolseley, Brasserie Zédel and Fischer’s.
Design and ‘Room’
The design of the hotel has been put together by Richmond International in collaboration with Jeremy King and ReardonSmith Architects. The interior design takes its inspiration from the Grade II listed building, which was originally built as a garage in 1926 and has an art deco style.
The Beaumont will feature a number of antiques, as well as artwork, posters and photographs in the public areas of the hotel that have been sourced by Corbin & King. There will also be bespoke furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows which run the width of the building. Bedrooms will be kitted out in a softer art deco style with rosewood wardrobes, bronze mirroring, mohair velvet chairs, and geometric wool carpets.
Principal of Richmond International Fiona Thompson said: “The brief was to take the hotel back to the Art Deco roots of the original building. As the hotel is in the heart of Mayfair, we felt it was important to create an environment with a level of indulgence and richness of culture that would speak to any visitor. We have used a rich palette of colours and materials, geometric shapes and elegant, timeless pieces to capture the luxurious glamour and exuberance of this visual and influential period.”
The hotel will have a presidential suite on the top floor which can have up to five bedrooms and a private terrace. In addition to this there will be ‘Room’, a suite in the form of a sculpture by Gormley. The sculpture is three storeys high and consists of welded stainless steel plates to form a figural shape. On the inside of the sculpture will be a one-bedroom oak suite with a white marble bathroom.
Dining and drinking facilities
The Beaumont’s main restaurant is the Colony Grill Room, which will have 100 covers and is modelled on traditional London and New York grill rooms. As well as grills the restaurant will offer classic dishes from both America and the UK. The restaurant will be over two levels and the seating area has red leather banquettes and 1930s bentwood and studded chairs. This area will also offer the American Bar which specialises in Bourbons and American whiskies and cocktails.
The hotel will also have a bar and lounge called The Cub Room which is exclusively for the use of hotel guests, and will offer private dining facilities in The Lotus Room for business meetings.
