Marylebone Leisure Group to launch Barsmith

The Marylebone Leisure Group is to open Barsmith this September, a new cocktail bar concept in London’s Farringdon.

The new bar will be the fifth venue belonging to the Marylebone Leisure Group, founded by Ben Avigdori and Lawrence Santi. Barsmith will be an all-day bar specialising in cocktails and spirits which will be infused in-house. It will be located on St John Street and opens at the beginning of September.

Barsmith will also host musicians every week, having live acoustic singers on Thursdays between 7pm and 10pm, and a DJ on Fridays from 7pm to 1am. The bar will be open from Monday to Saturday from 11am until late.

Cocktail choice

The cocktails at Barsmith will be put together by a team of London mixologists and the intent is to serve them with ‘fun and eccentricity’. All of the cocktails will cost the same price, £7.95, and be served a little differently, for instance inside soup cans or treasure chests with dry ice.

The cocktail list will include drinks such as the Milky Way, which is a mixture of homemade white chocolate vodka, the venue’s coffee rum, amaretto and organic cream, and the Hot Stuff Baby, which is made from homemade citrus infused vodka, carrot juice, egg white, stem ginger and chilli. The bar will also serve its namesake cocktail, the Barsmith, which features rum infused with ginger and honey, lychee and lime juice, mint leaves and ginger beer.

A custom built laboratory in central London will be used to create the infusions including chilli gin, ginger and honey rum, orange tequila and white chocolate vodka. The team intends to source the fresh produce for these infusions at New Covent Market daily.

Barsmith will aim to constantly work to improve its cocktail offering with more innovative mixes, putting ingredients through a number of processes such as boiling, cooling and caramelising.

Food and other drinks

As well as its cocktail offering, the kitchen at Barsmith will also be serving a selection of small plates with an Italian influence, as well as thin crust pizzas made with Neapolitan tomatoes and Buffalo mozzarella. Barsmith will also have a deli counter where customers can get cured meats and cheeses.

The rest of the bar’s drinks offering will include a large range of craft beers and ales, as well as a long wine list.

Barsmith is located at 18 - 20 St John Street in Farringdon.
