106 Café to open on Baker Street
Named after its street number, the venue will serve freshly prepared specialties throughout the day, using natural produce sourced from London markets and Italy.
The menu features baked breakfast goods, freshly squeezed juices (such as Sicilian watermelon and golden beetroot) and a range of salads with pearl barley, quinoa, feta, mint and Italian tomatoes as main ingredients, and quiches.
Other items include hand-made fresh porcini ravioli and sandwiches such as smoked mackerel and kale on a pretzel roll, or Tuscan sausage and broccoli sandwich on dark rye with mustard mayonnaise.
High-quality alternative
Chef and restaurateur Daniele Pampagnin said: “We wanted to provide a café offering a high-quality alternative to the many coffee shops already in the area. Our focus is on freshly prepared food, a menu which changes daily ensuring our regular customers are pleasantly surprised each day and a go-to area for those in the Marylebone vicinity.
“Our communal table for eight will hopefully bring groups together, encouraging customers to relax, savour our dishes and enjoy all that we have to offer.
“Baker Street is fast becoming the ultimate area for food lovers and we are proud to be one of the first independent cafes to be situated on this bustling London street”.
Vintage twist
Design firm Vaal Design create the café’s interiors for a ‘modern feel with a vintage twist’. The décor includes handpicked furniture from markets, mismatched mirrors, marble surfaces, restored original Victorian fireplaces and open sash windows overlooking a courtyard for two.
This is Pampagnin’s latest venture after two previous openings (TOZI Restaurant & Bar in London and 5&33, a dining and arts venue in Amsterdam). He will oversee operations with his former colleague and friend chef Alessandro Schiavon, who will run the café day to day.
