Beverley to welcome six restaurants at Flemingate development

The £120m Flemingate mixed-use development, due to open in late October 2015 in Beverley, will include a mix of six national chain and independent restaurants.

Zizzi’s has already been confirmed and developer Wykeland Group is in negotiations to fill the other five spaces.

“We’re in discussions with a number of national and regional operators at the moment – we only just got on site about three weeks ago and it’s a 16-17 month build.

“We’re looking a mixture of large quality national chains, smaller national chains and we also have one or two more regional independents in negotiations. We’d like to have a few independents in there, as we believe they’ll bring something different to the mix, compared to national large-scale operators,” Wykeland managing director Dominic Gibbons told BigHospitality.

Offering all-day dining from breakfast to late evening, the complex will focus on high quality dining – with no fast food or take-away.

Marc Ward, group head of acquisitions at Gondola Group, added: ”Gondola is delighted to have secured a restaurant for Zizzi in this exciting new scheme.  Flemingate will be a great new destination in Beverley, with an offer and quality that will attract visitors from across the region.”

Premier Inn

Premier Inn has also signed for an 80-room venue – the only hotel at Flemingate for space reasons.

On the retail side, Wykeland has secured Debenhams, H&M and Arcadia, as well as five screens from independent cinema operator Parkway.

“One of the screens is going to be a theatre as well as a cinema, with changing facilities and a whole programme of comedy clubs, theatre and pantomime, which will create a real heart to the community.

“We’re hoping to create a real regional destination,” added Gibbons.

Located next to Beverley Minster, Flemingate consists of 162,561 sq ft of retail and leisure space, complemented by a 500-space multi-storey car park and a 60,000 sq ft campus for East Riding College.  The residential side of the development, consisting of 130 new homes, has already been delivered. Once finished, Flemingate will create approximately 700 jobs, with a further 130 during construction.
