The man behind Delance y &Co, Daniel Moosah, has taken his inspiration from well-known deli bars that can be found in the Lower East Side of New York, such as Katz Delicatessen and Russ & Daughters. However he intends to modernize his approach and be a ‘light’ addition to the choice of fast food in the UK capital.
Delancey & Co will offer takeaway dishes as well as giving customers the option to eat in, and will have a self-service counter. The interior of the bar will have the style of a contemporary diner, with stool seating and marble counters alongside themed pop art on the walls.
Modernised favourites
The deli bar concept in London will be offering options such as the traditional salt beef on rye bread or bagels with mustard, or hand-carved smoked salmon on bagels, which are made by a traditional Jewish baker.
Delancey & Co will offer a choice of six different types of cream cheese including pink horseradish and cracked black pepper and chili. The deli will have a range of signature sandwiches, such as Reuben sandwiches, and will also sell cholla rolls, sweet and sour gherkins and Jewish penicillin, which is chicken soup. In terms of the drink offering, there will also be a range of American beers available and Prosecco on tap.
Moosah was raised in London and grew up eating traditional Jewish foods, before taking a hospitality course, the Leiths Diploma in Food & Wine. He has spent years researching deli offerings in both London and New York and will be using ethically sourced brisket and salmon, while keeping his cooking methods traditional. Moosah intends to ‘shake up’ the more upmarket side of London’s fast food offerings.
