Giorgio Locatelli to open Marylebone pizza pop-up

Renowned Italian chef Giorgio Locatelli is opening a pop-up pizza restaurant in Marylebone with his wife Plaxy this September.

Open for just three weeks, the casual all-day dining restaurant will serve wood-fired pizza as well as light antipasti, meats, salads and pasta.

The couple, who were previously patrons of London pizza restaurant Spiga, will offer their distinctive take on the Italian favourite, using seasonal ingredients to create bold toppings such as the ‘Toscana’ with finocchiona salami and roasted pepper and the ‘Seaside’ with swordfish, clams, salmoriglio and prawns.

“Pizza will always be ingrained in Italian culture and it is one of my favourite staples. I am really excited to be going back to the days of Spiga and creating some delicious new pizzas in a casual and relaxed space, appealing to everyone,” said Giorgio.

Small dishes on offer will include parma ham and figs, autumn salad, spaghettini with clams, garlic and chilli and autumnal chestnut tagliatelle with mixed wild mushrooms, butter and chives.

An upstairs bar will serve a menu of Italian spritz, wines, craft beers and cocktails, with both Italian classics and more contemporary choices available.

The Locatellis have enlisted Dinos Chapman and other artists to produce plates and staff t-shirts for the restaurant, which will be auctioned off at the end of the three week run to raise money for international charity Action against Hunger.

One of the most respected Italian chefs in the UK, Giorgio Locatelli is the chef patron of Michelin-starred restaurant Locanda Locatelli in Marylebone, which serves quality Italian food in a relaxed atmosphere.
