The new owners believe the extensive refurbishment will see the pub becoming a popular hub for the local community and those from further away. The Honor Oak will place emphasis on its traditional British menu and local craft beers, as well as having a dedicated whisky room.
The bar has 150 covers and hosts a beer garden and dining terrace as well as private function rooms available for hire. It has an open-plan kitchen area and a Victorian look and feel.
Food and drink offering
Notable additions to the pub include a dedicated Whisky Room, which will have hundreds of different types. The Honor Oak will also have its own specially commissioned and labelled Brut Champagne which it will sell for £6.95 per glass and £39.50 for a bottle. It also sells British beer ‘The Governor’, which was created by Marco Pierre White and JW Lees Brewery.
The Honor Oak will place a high importance on using local produce, selling local craft ales and using ingredients sourced from the surrounding area for the dishes on its menu.
It will serve traditional British fare including homemade scotch eggs and pork scratchings, ploughman’s lunches, homemade pies and a wide range of grill steaks.
Community matters
The owner intends to use the pub’s multi-purpose function rooms for a variety of activities to attract the locals. These include ‘City Speed Dating’ nights, whisky tasting evenings, cheese and wine parties, quiz nights and more.
Owner Justin Wallace said: “The main thrust will be on the local community and our local residents who in the past held The Honor Oak in great esteem as a huge focal point for their community. There will also be a big concentration on ‘family’ and to that end our customers will be able to enjoy a large outdoor beer garden, a dining terrace, a soft play area for children. And mums will even be able to have breakfast or a coffee as our doors will be open from 10am each morning.
“The pub will be a ‘home from home’ that will honour the local community.”
