Bite Me Pizza restaurant to open in west London

New sustainable pizza restaurant Bite Me Pizza will be opening in London’s Westbourne area on 16 June.

Bite Me Pizza aims to create a sustainable and eco-friendly restaurant that has affordable prices and offers customers the option to completely design their own pizzas. The site has 17 covers and also offers takeaway.

Pizza concept

For its pizzas, the restaurant uses dough that is made daily on the premises from a flour mixture that contains Khorasan wheat, which is easier to digest by gluten allergy sufferers. Over 30 different choices of toppings are on offer and customers are invited to add as many as they want, with process varying depending on how many toppings they select. A standard margarita pizza costs £6.

Toppings are sourced as locally as possible and are mostly British, they are divided into ‘Meat & Fish’,  ‘Cheese’  and ‘Vegetables’ and include pepperoni, tuna, pancetta, Napoli sausage, anchovies, organic artichoke hearts, free range egg, mushrooms, black olives, sun-dried tomato, Camembert, feta, Gruyere, Parmesan and Gorgonzola.  Topping prices range from £1 to £2.

Bite Me Pizza will also have 10 set pizzas available for those who don’t want to create their own, including their signature Posh Pizza which comes with tomato sauce, mozzarella di buffala, bocconcini, prosciutto crudo, rucola, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan flakes and truffle oil.  The restaurant will also serve London beers and Italian wines.

Founder and co-owner of Bite Me Pizza Chris Manessis said: “We offer an artisan product at a good price that you can customise however you want, I think that will really appeal to people.”

Sustainable site

It is important to Manessis that the restaurant is eco-friendly, and its philosophy of sustainability is carried out through the site design and the menu.

The interior of the restaurant features reclaimed timber and iron from the UK, energy saving light bulbs and faux leather on the seats in an attempt to be eco-friendly. Bite Me Pizza will also use biodegradable corn starch cutlery, recyclable pizza boxes and environmentally friendly cooking methods. They will only use electric ovens and have capped off their gas supply. The restaurant intends to offer a delivery option in future, and will do so using bikes or electric bikes to remain as carbon neutral as possible.

“It was very important to me to set up an eco-friendly place,” said Manessis. “We are sustainable with the menu too and we source as locally as possible, the furthest away product that we import is from Italy, but it’s mostly English goods we get.”

Bite Me Pizza is located at 95 Westbourne Grove and opens 16 June.
