The hotel was bought by independent entrepreneur Pieter Hamman last November, and has undergone major refurbishing in the past six months.
The new-look luxury boutique hotel, which has been designed by Manchester designer Timothy Oulton, has eight bedrooms, including three luxury double rooms, one single, two superior doubles and one standard room, priced between £159 and £239 a night.
“Each of the rooms is uniquely designed with different styles of beds, and all the furniture is handcrafted with superior quality products and materials. The rooms are all themed after Alice in Wonderland characters,” said Gita Hamman, Glazebrook House marketing manager.
She told BigHospitality that the hotel also has a conference room and a restaurant headed by chef Ben Palmer – a quarter finalist on MasterChef: The Professionals 2012 – which will be open to the public as well as guests.
Restaurant
The menu, described as ‘modern British’, features starters including a foraged wild garlic soup with crispy Terras Farm duck egg and infused lemon oil; or a creedy Carver duck liver parfait with granola, gooseberry & green peppercorn pickle and brioche toast; and mains such as a pan-fried Cornish Turbot with foraged buttered sea vegetables, Jersey Royals, crispy Exmouth mussels and marinières butter sauce; and wild Hart venison loin with smoked pomme puree, cauliflower fondant & puree, roasted pear, Devon Blue cheese and red wine venison jus.
Glazebrook House, which aims to position itself in the luxury boutique segment, also has a wine and whiskey tasting room giving customers the opportunity to book a 20-minute private session with a sommelier to pick a wine for their dinner.
The hotel’s bar, also open to the public, features leather panel walls, leather chairs, and chandelier lamps at the coffee tables. The bar itself is made out of redwood marble.
Although no set date has been fixed for the hard opening, the hotel is already accepting bookings and fulfilling the reservations made by the previous owners. “It was already a hotel when we bought it so we inherited a few bookings from the previous owners, and we decided to continue to honour the bookings and their rates,” Hamman added.
