Nightclub owner Nick House’s latest venture Rusty Nail opened yesterday (29 May) in London’s Mayfair.

House has set up a number of other nightlife venues in London including Mahiki, Whisky Mist, and Bodo's Schloss. This latest project acts as a sister venue to Whisky Mist and is a ‘secret club within a club’ located in the city centre on Hertford Street.

Rusty Nail has the capacity for 80 people and a focus on serving super-premium whiskies and cocktails until the early hours of the morning.

Design and atmosphere

The nightclub has been modelled on the theme of cellars inside a medieval castle, with an aim to merge a medieval style with some more modern ideas. The design team have done this by placing older features such as church candles, distressed wallpaper and old whisky barrels against more modern fittings including neon light and artwork in a contemporary style. There is also a wolf’s head as the club’s ‘mascot’.

Rusty Nail aims for decadence and wants to attract A-listers and those who share a similar taste in music and style. The venue plans to house international DJs and in terms of its music offering it will play a mix of electro, disco and 80s funk and rock music.

The club intends to host performances from dancers regularly and have other forms of live entertainment on offer, including people in dress as knights in armour and damsels. The staff will also be dressed to fit in with the modern meets medieval theme in ‘rock-inspired military chic’ outfits.

Drinks offering

With a keen focus on whisky, the club takes its name from the famous ‘Rusty Nail’ cocktail made from a mixture of whisky and Drambuie. The bar will offer this particular drink in four different flavours served in skull shaped shot glasses.

Rusty Nail will also have a number of signature drinks on offer including the Rusty Wolf which is a sharing cocktail, the Mystic Aroma which is a blend of Ciroc Red Berry, rocket salad, lemon juice, cracked pepper, ginger, lemongrass, pink grapefruit and sirop de gomme, and the Melon Bees which is made with watermelon, root ginger, honey bees syrup, Johnny Walker and Martini Rosso.

The club is open from 10:30 pm to 3am on Tuesdays and from Thursday to Sunday, but is also available for private bookings on other nights of the week.

Rusty Nail is located at 35 Hertford Street in Mayfair.
