The award winners included big names in foodservice and hospitality such as Coca-Cola, WRAP and Aramark & Chef Direct. However the winner of the Community Vote Award was Café Muse at Manchester Museum, showing that smaller businesses can also have an important impact with sustainability.
Footprint’s chief executive Nick Fenwicke-Clennell said: “Five years on from the first Footprint Awards and I’m delighted to see the progression and number of businesses who are helping to put sustainability at the forefront of the foodservice industry. Whether it’s in the area of natural resource, energy or waste, the sustainability campaigns and initiatives being pioneered by companies large and small have become intrinsic to business.”
Footprint’s managing director Charles Miers said: “All of this year’s winners highlight the on-going brilliant achievements of some of the biggest and most entrepreneurial names in the foodservice and hospitality industry. But it’s not just large corporations who are helping to make a difference, we want to thank everyone who entered this year’s awards, big and small, for their wonderful efforts to reduce the impact of their processes or services on the environment and on society.”
Organisers claimed the entry standards were extremely high with scored having to be checked against the entry criteria three times as the competition was so fierce.
