Number Six will serve mid-morning coffee, lunch and dinner and is a short walk from Warwick Castle.
The restaurant currently seats 70 though this may be reduced when the cocktail area is established. The owners are in discussion with the council about the potential of an outdoor seating area too.
Number Six investor Angela Chambers said: “I think this type of restaurant is what Warwick needs, and cocktail bars are quite popular at the moment. We’re trying to create the kind of environment that we ourselves would like to spend time in.”
“We’ve all known this site for years and it’s always been a restaurant. The setting is perfect and it’s in a really lovely part of Warwick so when we saw the site was available we jumped at it.
“I think the style of the restaurant and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere will make it stand out. It’s not going to be a lively, party place but we want to attract a younger clientele, we’re aiming at the 25 to 45 age range and we hope it’ll be a fun place for people to go.”
Complete refurbishment
Number Six is currently undergoing renovation work, and the team hopes to open on 24 May this year, though this date could change.
Chambers said: “The restaurant is being completely redecorated. It will have new soft furnishings and the lighting is being replaced, so it’s going to look completely different to how it does now. It will be deep purple with silver; we’re going for a luxurious and glamorous look.”
The restaurant space has been bought by a local group of friends and restaurant lovers, and is fronted by general manager, Andrew Paul.
Chambers added: “We all love dining out, we’re frequent restaurant goers and we thought we’d like to try owning one ourselves. But Andrew will be taking full responsibility for the day to day running of the restaurant.”
Sustainable menus
General manager Andrew Paul said: “After many years in the industry it’s so exciting to bring this concept to the area that I have loved and lived in for the past few years. I can’t wait to demonstrate my passion for friendly and professional service, our incredible menus and of course my amazing cocktails.”
Shahid Ahmed will also be working as chef at Number Six. He has previously been involved in a number of five-star restaurants all around the World and has worked as head chef at London’s Tate Modern.
Ahmed said: “I see this as a great opportunity to work with local producers and suppliers to create fresh, seasonal and sustainable menus, which I believe will be unique to this lovely town. The focus will be on modern British cuisine, incorporating exciting flavours and global influences from my travels and work abroad.”
