Final preparations for Community Pubs Month 2014 underway

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is stepping up preparations for Community Pubs Month, which will run across the UK in April.

The annual event will see over 7,000 pubs across the country running events to boost trade. CAMRA will help promote these events, and has produced promotional packs for pubs that have supported its previous campaigns, as well as the Good Beer Guide 2014 pubs.

The organisation will also use the month to highlight key issues facing the sector and reveal new research and case studies on community pubs.

Positive start to the year

So far, 2014 has been a good year for community pubs, with the government’s decision to cut Beer Duty by 1p and freeze the Alcohol Duty Escalator, as well as abandon plans to scrap retain personal licences, likely to provide a boost to trade.

However, pubs are still closing at a rate of 28 per week in the UK, and CAMRA says it is vital that remaining businesses adapt to the increasingly competitive marketplace.

“This month of action gives pubs a campaign to focus promotions around and try some new marketing initiatives to attract more custom,” said the organisation.

“We would like all pubs to take part by organising some fun events for the local community to enjoy in April.”

Community Pubs Month

Community Pubs Month was launched by CAMRA in 2012 and was an immediate success, with over 5,500 pubs signing up to the first year.

The 2013 Community Pubs Month was used to launch four national pub campaigns, which ran over ten months and helped achieve this year's Budget success.
