GB Pizza Co ventures into London

GB Pizza Co, the ‘pop-up to permanent’ pizza restaurant in Margate, is making its first foray into London with a second site soon to open in Exmouth Market.

The modern British, wood-fired pizza concept is heading from seaside to city centre, with the new, 55-cover counter service restaurant opening on the former Pride of Siam site at 50 Exmouth Market in late spring.

“We can’t wait to serve our pizza in the capital,” said Lisa Richards, who co-owns the business with Rachel Seed.  “We’re so excited to be working with great producers all across the British Isles - we’ve taken the most important aspects of Italian pizza making and introduced great British ingredients including UK-made buffalo mozzarella, 00 flour and nduja salami. Even the tea we serve is from Britain’s only tea plantation.”

On the menu

GB Pizza Co Exmouth Market will offer a ‘forward-thinking, seasonal’ menu, celebrating the best of British ingredients. The thin-and-crispy pizzas will be cooked in under three minutes, with toppings including chorizo and chill (£8.50), fennel salami (£9) and the ‘Full English’ complete with a poached egg. Weekly specials will be inspired by what's in season and customers will be able to help themselves to organic wines from bespoke barrels.

As with the Margate outpost, the Exmouth Market location will be designed to feature GB Pizza Co’s trademark pink neon lighting, with upcycled and vintage furniture, traditional signwriting and bespoke artwork by street artist Teddy Baden.

The GB Pizza Co concept originated in February 2012, serving wood-fired pizzas from the back of a VW Campervan. In June 2012, owners Richards (a marketing consultant) and Seed (a trained chef) opened an al-fresco pop-up on Margate’s Harbour Arm, before opening a permanent site in the up-and-coming seaside town four months later.
