Barry Johnson of Rococo Chocolate and Nicholas Belorgey, a teaching chef at Le Cordon Bleu in London, beat five other teams from the region to first place after a five-hour competition at SIRHA in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday (Sunday 26 January) where they were tasked with creating two fruit desserts, nine identical desserts and sugar and chocolate sculptures.
Johnson and Belorgey, led by UK team president Martin Chiffers, will now prepare for the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie 2015 which will take place at SIRHA in Lyon next January.
The UK team, which had just three months to prepare for the European heat, was up against teams from Denmark, Russia, Sweden, Israel and Switzerland with Denmark following closely in second place and Sweden in third. A special award was also given to Switzerland.
It is the second time the UK team has topped the European competition, having won first place in 2012.
A prize of 4,000 Euros, three trophies and three gold medals was awarded to the UK team while the Danish team won 2,000 Euros and three silver medals. The Swedish team took home 1,000 Euros and three bronze medals.
Following the announcement of the award, Chiffers took to Twitter to announce his team's victory.
