Jamaican burger restaurant Boom Burger to open in Notting Hill

Jamaican-influenced burger concept Boom Burger is set to open its first permanent restaurant in London's Notting Hill early next year.

The business, owned and managed by Jamaican-born chef Josh de Lisser, will take up permanent residency at 272 Portobello Road where Lisser plans to bring a Caribbean twist to London's booming burger scene.

The chef, who has been searching for a permanent site since launching his pop-up at The Earl of Portobello pub eight months ago, said his concept was inspired by the 'loud flavours' found in traditional Caribbean cooking and his childhood inability to find a decent burger.

"There was nowhere to get a good burger in Montego Bay, so I started experimenting with all the unique and fantastic flavours on my doorstep," he said.

Jamaican-inspired

The 25-cover restaurant, with decor inspired by the Jamaican restaurants de Lisser frequented during his youth, will open under a soft launch at the end of January and will serve a selection of burgers alongside rum cocktails and other Jamaican drinks.

Burgers, with organic meat supplied by local butcher H.G. Walter, will include the Jerk Burger, a chicken burger accompanied by papaya and mango sauce, and will be come with brioche buns from The Bread Factory and plantain or potato fries.

Boom Burger will open for lunch and dinner six days a week and all-day Fridays and Saturdays to cater for visitors to Portobello Road with a selection of brunch options, including Brunch Boom, a combination of fried egg, sweetcure bacon, bacon jam and avocado salsa. It will also offer take away.

De Lisser's new venue plans to continue the success of his pop-up at The Earl of Portobello in Westbourne Grove, which opened in March. He also ran a week-long pop-up at members' club The Doll's House on Hoxton Square in London in September.
