Warwickshire-based Purity Brewing Co is celebrating British cycling with its first-ever black beer.

Product details:

Saddle Black is a 5.1 per cent ABV beer made using Chinook and Cascade hops and smoked, chocolate and black malts. According to Purity, it offers aromas of citrus, chocolate and espresso.

For the launch, saddle maker Brooks England has produced a number of handmade saddles with the Purity logo on. The handmade saddles are being displayed on limited-edition Pashley bicycles, which are being offered as consumer prizes.

USP:

Saddle Black can be paired with high flavour, tangy hard cheeses such as Black Bomber cheddar.  It also suits rich chocolate puddings, chocolate cake, tarts and tortes.

Cost:

The price of a nine-gallon firkin (equal to 72 pints) is £90.50+VAT.

Why you should buy it:

Paul Halsey, managing director of Purity Brewing Co, said: “As a keen cyclist, I wanted to create a beer dedicated to the British cycling community and celebrate the craft that goes into making both beer and bicycles.

“Brooks England and Pashley Cycles are long established West Midlands companies at the forefront of their trade and we saw a synergy between their passion and craftsmanship and our values.”

Availability:

Saddle Black is available to pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés in nine-gallon firkins until March. Contact Claire James and Chris Hancock at Purity on 01789 488007 or email fnyrf@chevgloerjvat.pbz to order.

More information:

Saddle Black is the first of many seasonal beers Purity hopes to release. It was made possible by the brewer’s new semi-automated Braukon brewing system, which produces the equivalent of 140,000 pints of beer a week – a 150 per cent increase in production over its previous facility.
