Bespoke to open Hotel Gotham in Manchester
The new hotel will open within a building in King Street, which was designed by famous architect Sir Edward Lutyens and served as the headquarters of the Midland Bank, in spring 2015 following a year of development work.
Bespoke will work with the building's owners the Marshall Construction Group, to turn it into a luxury hotel with 60 deluxe rooms, a restaurant, private members' bar and roof garden. Several suites will also feature, each with their own private internal garden.
“Hotel Gotham promises to be a fun, witty destination and a little bit naughty. We want it to be the sexiest hotel in Europe”, said Sheppard. “Working with the skills of the Marshall Construction Group team as our partners we hope to open up the character of this majestic building and present it to the Manchester public as a hotel they can be truly proud of."
Work to transform the building will start next March, almost 80 years after Lutyens, designer of numerous buildings and monuments, including Greywalls hotel, designed 100 King Street.
Simon Marshall, managing director of the Marshall Construction Group, said: "We are delighted to begin the transformation of this handsome Lutyens building into a first class hotel with our partners Bespoke Hotels. We are also grateful to Manchester's Planning Authority's enthusiasm for our scheme."
