Boundary Hotel owners Sir Terence Conran, Lady Conran and Peter Prescott, who opened the hotel in Shoreditch in 2009, were present at the awards ceremony at the Independent Hotel Show at London’s Olympia, to pick up their award after they received the highest number of votes from a shortlist by their industry peers.
Sir Terence said: “It is almost five years since we opened Boundary and we are delighted to get this very special and personal award. We like to think it recognises the love, attention to detail and individuality of our little hotel in the heart of Shoreditch.
“A lot of our own character went in to the design and planning and we have enjoyed keeping this very personal project well-maintained while also introducing new ideas. Little things like introducing new art and objects and changes to our rooftop garden that keep it open all year round all make the hotel very special for us."
Tim Etchells, managing director of Single Market Events, organisers of the Independent Hotel Show said the award recognised the trio’s achievements.
“Sir Terence, Lady Conran and Peter Prescott‘s contribution to the hospitality industry has been massive and this achievement reflects their pioneering spirit and reputation for pushing boundaries within the independent hospitality sector. I would also like to thank this year’s nominations committee for constructing a shortlist of such high quality and supporting this award,” he said.
Outstanding New Hotel
Hotelier Robin Hutson, who was also on the Independent Hotelier of the Year shortlist, celebrated his award for Outstanding New Hotel of the Year for his Hampshire hotel The Pig.
The New Forest hotel beat The Ampersand Hotel, ME Hotel London, 45 Park Lane, Corinthia Hotel, Edgar House, The Wellesley and South Place Hotel to the accolade after receiving the highest level of votes from the industry.
Hutson said: “We are delighted to be recognised for this award, especially as it is nominated by industry experts and voted for by our fellow peers.
“Since opening we have gone from strength to strength, I’m really proud of the team for all their hard work and dedication. Next year we will open a further two properties so it’s a really exciting time for us.”
The Independent Hotel Show continues at Olympia in London today.
