Artist David Shrigley to re-design Sketch's Gallery restaurant
Shrigley, a multidisciplinary artist known for his distinctive cartoon-like drawings, will take over from Martin Creed, the Turner Prize winning artist who gave Sketch's brasserie area a new look in March 2012.
As Creed did, Shrigley will not only work on the design of the venue, but will also work with Sketch's Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire to design a new menu that will be heavily influenced by his artwork.
Sketch's artists' programme is designed to highlight the restaurant's links with art. The site of the restaurant and bar in London's Conduit Street was formerly the headquarters of both RIBA and London Atelier Christian Dior.
Sketch chief executive Sinead Mallozzi said: "We were delighted with the success of the first artist-conceived project with Martin Creed; the result was a vibrant, individual restaurant with Creed's artistic themes running right through the space from the interior design through to the tables, chairs, cutlery and the food itself.
Everyone at Sketch is thrilled to be working with David Shrigley on the second re-imagination - we love being able to offer our guests something completely different and new on a regular basis and look forward to the opening next year."
The Gallery brasserie will close at the end of the year for two months to allow work to take place before re-opening in February 2014.
Shrigley, who was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2013 for his work 'Life Model', will work with RSC Contemporary Ltd and Christopher Huynh who will jointly curate the project.
