Boxpark and Street Feast to collaborate for new food venture
The two parties are currently searching for a suitable site in East London where they can set up a space for Street Feast, giving its traders a chance to have a more permanent home within former shipping containers, as used at Boxpark in Shoreditch.
Roger Wade, the director and founder of Boxpark, the temporary mall which features a mix of fashion and lifestyle brands, galleries, cafés and restaurants, said the new venture would be purely dedicated to food and would build on the success of the restaurants, bars and cafes, like Simply Fish and Rhum Shack, which had taken up residence at the original Boxpark.
A fan of Street Feast, which so far has operated from car parks, breweries, warehouses, old tube stations, and builders' merchants, Wade said he was looking for another site in East London between 10 and 100,000 sq ft for his second retail development.
Street Feast
"I love the Street Feast concept. We are not a run of the mall retail developer and we want to help develop new, exciting concepts like Street Feast," he said.
Street Feast, which has included stalls run by a host of well-known street food traders such as The Ribman, The Bowler, Homeslice and Big Apple Hotdogs as well as chef Ben Spalding's Stripped Back concept, was last in operation over the summer, taking over the site of a former builders' merchants in Dalston.
Its founder Dominic Cools-Lartigue said the original concept was keen to find another site in East London and was looking forward to working with Boxpark to find one
"At Street Feast we take care to create environments that are a viable alternative to being in a pub or restaurant," he said.
"I'm excited by the possibilities of working with Boxpark, as I've always respected their desire to challenge the conventional retail experience."
