Two Fat Ladies heading for Troon

Two Fat Ladies - the four-strong, Glasgow-based restaurant chain – is opening its first restaurant outside of the city on Friday (20 September).

The group, run by restaurateur Ryan James, is opening a 110-cover venue housed within The Marine Hotel – a four-star property in Troon, South Ayrshire, owned by Puma Hotels’ Collection.

“We have been considering expanding for a while and the introduction of our first venue outside of the city could not have found a better partner than Puma Hotels,” said James. “The stunning setting at The Marine will be an idyllic backdrop to our menus.

“Those that already know us will be able to enjoy our experience at a new location, whilst those that are new to the Two Fat Ladies will find this the perfect introduction.”

Based around the ethos of offering high-quality produce and excellent customer service within an intimate setting, the Two Fat Ladies at The Marine will offer a seasonally-inspired, fish-focused menu, with dishes including west coast scallops, spiced dhal & lime coriander sour cream and whole lemon sole. Desserts such as glazed strawberries & raspberries, cherry brandy sabayon and peach ice cream will also feature.

On the menu

New head chef Andrew Beattie, brings over a decade of creative cooking experience, including with the Two Fat Ladies group, while restaurant manager and Troon local Ashley Hardcastle will head up the 20-strong team of waiting staff.

Inspired by the Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery in the heart of Glasgow, the new restaurant will launch as Two Fat Ladies in late September.

Fredrik Korallus, the chief executive of Puma Hotels' Collection, said: “We are inspired by Ryan James' creativity and the dining experience at his restaurants reflects that of our hotel - comfortable, intimate and of high quality.

“The addition of the Two Fat Ladies will give locals and visitors alike a reason to return again and again to The Marine.”

In addition to the restaurant at The Marine Hotel, Two Fat Ladies will inspire the Marine's banqueting and events menus, providing packages for weddings and social events.

Hospitable City

The hotel will launch a special ‘dinner, bed and breakfast package’, to include a three-course meal at Two Fat Ladies. Prices will start at £109 for two.

James, who founded Two Fat Ladies in 2004 and is also chairman of the Glasgow Restaurant Association, was included in our ‘Hospitable Cities: Glasgow’ special feature last year, talking about the rise in popularity of the city’s hospitality offering. Read that here.
