The Bavarian Beerhouse to open in Bristol, first outside London

The 280-cover two-storey restaurant and bar in Bristol's Queen Charlotte Street will open on 30 August where it will serve the company's trademark Bavarian fare of pretzels, sausages, schnitzels, meatballs and cheeses alongside beers such as Krombacher Pils Bier and Erdinger Wheat Bier. 

Waiting staff wear traditional costume and German oompah bands provide regular entertainment.  

Owners Rene and Sabine von Reth, who opened the first Bavarian Beerhouse in London's Old Street in 2005, decided on Bristol after taking part in the German Beer Fest last year and set about finding a suitable venue. 

“Our location on Queen Charlotte Street couldn’t be better. We’re close to the city centre, the docks, offices and hotels, and we’re looking forward to welcoming both locals and tourists through our doors," said Sabine. 

Franchise​

The new site in Bristol will also be the first to open under a franchise agreement, an option which the von Reths said would help them expand the concept quicker. 

The couple, who have created a business consulting package for franchisees who are required to invest a minimum of £75k into the business, told BigHospitality's sister publication M&C Report​ last month that franchises in Hong Kong and China could be next with other large UK cities such as Birmingham, Brighton, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester and Liverpool also on the radar. 

The Bavarian Beerhouse was born out of Rene von Reth's inability to find a German beer and pork shank on his move to London in 2000. He and Sabine spent the next few years raising cash and developing the business before opening the first site in 2005. Their second restaurant opened in Tower Hill in 2010.
