Textile design firm and international retailer Laura Ashley has opened its first luxury boutique hotel in the Hertfordshire countryside near Elstree.

A 49-bedroom property, Laura Ashley The Manor, Elstree is designed to act as a showcase for the iconic brand's prints and products. The current homeware collections are on display in the rooms and suites of the Tudor revival property.

The venue, formerly known as The Edgwarebury Hotel, was acquired by the retailer last year from Corus Hotels. Malaysia-based MUI Group, which now controls Laura Ashley, is also the parent company of London Vista Hotel, the owner of Corus Hotels.

There are no confirmed plans to open further UK venues although press reports suggest the retailer may be considering international hotel ventures.

Design heritage

Laura Ashley has spent six months on a multi-million pound renovation of the property which stands on the site on an old house dating back to 1540.

Announcing the opening this week, a Laura Ashley statement said: "Quintessentially English lifestyle brand, Laura Ashley is delighted to open the doors to its first luxury boutique hotel – marking 60 years of the company’s design heritage.

"Nestled in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, Laura Ashley The Manor, Elstree encompasses 49 elegant rooms and suites each individually designed using the current Laura Ashley Home collections, providing the perfect showcase for the brand’s prints and quality products."

The Cavendish

The hotel, which is situated 11 miles from London, is set in 10 acres of natural woodland with landscaped gardens.

As well as being set-up to host business conferences, weddings and events, the hotel boasts The Cavendish restaurant with a kitchen team led by head chef Gary Nock and The Terrace Bar.

The restaurant features a fine-dining concept with a seasonally changing menu of English and Malaysian dishes using local ingredients. As well as afternoon teas, The Terrace Bar offers a selection of 50 fine whiskies.

Prices for a standard room in the hotel start from £150, while guests will pay up to £500 per night for one of the most-luxurious suites.
