Peach Pubs to open 17th pub, first in Birmingham
The company, run by Lee Cash and Hamish Stoddart, will work with Calthorpe Estates to turn the building, formerly the home of English architect and surveyor Francis W B Yorke, into a 100-cover pub called the Highfield Townhouse.
Peach will invest £1m into redeveloping the building into a pub, opening up access to the rear and developing the interior and exterior before opening next spring.
Cash, who will oversee the project, said the pub had a prime position, being located opposite Simpsons restaurant, next to The Deli@Edgbaston and in the same street as new cocktail bar and boutique hotel The Edgbaston, which was one of the reasons the food-led operator was opening there.
"When Calthorpe Estates shared their vision to create a heart of the community where the local community and local people could pop down and enjoy meeting friends and colleagues, we knew that our ethos would fit this perfectly, and offer something different,” he said.
“We’re making a sizeable investment in the project, because it’s our first in the city and we’re excited to be here, no-one more so than me – it’s great to be back."
Operations
The Highfield Townhouse will be officially opened by Peach operations director Spencer Graydon next year. Graydon is currently searching for 30 people to hire to work at the pub, including chefs and front-of-house staff.
He said: “I’m thrilled that we’re here building our next Peach gastropub right on my doorstep and can’t wait to see it open and packed with people including everyone I know locally having a great time. I think the time and place are just right for us and that it will really fly. And I can personally vouch for the energy and enthusiasm we’ll put into making sure it does – it’s going to be my local, after all."
Peach's 16th pub, the Star & Garter, opened in Leamington Spa last year. Despite operating mostly in the Midlands, The Highfield Townhouse will be its first in the city of Birmingham.
