Bridge of Orchy hotel triples in size following £1.5m renovation

The Bridge of Orchy hotel in Argyll has re-opened after a £1.5m renovation, partly funded by the Bank of Scotland, which has tripled the size of the Scottish venue.

An additional 23 bedrooms have been added to the four-star hotel as a result of the refurb - previously the venue offered just 10 bedrooms and an adjacent bunkhouse with budget accommodation. 

Substantial investment

The hotel, which is owned by Donald MacDonald and Sandy Orr, is run by managing director Andrew McKnight.

"As a company we have always had a soft spot for the Bridge of Orchy Hotel," said McKnight. "It’s a very relaxed hotel, offering really good food and friendly service. We wanted to make sure the hotel not only maintained its standard of accommodation but actually brought facilities up a notch without changing the feel."

McKnight said the investment had been made in order to accommodate greater tourist demand. 

"It has been a substantial investment and a big job, but we’re really pleased with the finished result. The additional rooms mean we’re now able to welcome and accommodate discerning international travellers, which will make a substantial difference to the business," he added.

Vital industry

The renovation was made possible as a result of £1m from the Bank of Scotland which was given in the form of a loan and overdraft facilities

Twenty one new bedrooms have been built in a courtyard extension. The high-spec units, clad in Scottish larch and steel, now occupy the space of the former bunkhouse. Two large suites have also been created following the conversion of an adjacent building.

"The hotel has a great reputation with strong customer advocacy demonstrated through great TripAdvisor reviews and by frequent return visits," said Ian Craig, relationship manager at the Bank of Scotland. "With a greater capacity of high standard accommodation, we’re sure this much loved hotel will continue to thrive.

"This substantial funding package again underlines Bank of Scotland's continued support for Scotland's vital tourist industry," he added.

Following the renovation, a wide selection of Scottish art will be featured throughout the hotel, with different pieces on display in each room.
