Hotel Xenia, a new £9m venue in South Kensington complete with healthy Italian restaurant, has opened this week following a two-year development.

The 99-bedroom Cromwell Road hotel opened yesterday and has become the latest venue to join Great Hotels of the World's Premium Collection.

One of three collections run by sales and marketing firm Hotel Performance Company, the Premium Collection currently features four UK hotels including The Rookery in Clerkenwell.

Hotel Xenia is located within a renovated Victorian building located near to the area's famous museums and galleries. As well as 99 so-called 'contemporary guestrooms,' the hotel includes one suite which the team behind the venue claims is the first in London to have a Turkish bath.

Each of the hotel's bedrooms comes with a tablet computer and guests will also have access to another innovative feature - an Italian restaurant which has been inspired by nutritionist Chiara Manzi.

Located in the hotel's conservatory and featuring an al fresco dining area, Evoluzione boasts a menu which includes low-calorie, healthy Italian cuisine. A three-course meal with less than 800 calories has been created by head chef Pasquale D'Ambrosio.

Cooking demonstrations will also take place on a daily basis in the restaurant.

Mario Ovsenjak, general manager at Hotel Xenia, said the team were 'very excited' by the new property. "It is an exclusive offering which we hope will be a contemporary yet comfortable home from home for our discerning guests.

"Innovation is throughout – from our unique dining concept to tablet computers in each room – which I believe will bring something special to London," she added.

The newly-opened hotel also features a private dining room for 14 diners; a function room with capacity for up to 80 guests; two bars, including one with a separate entrance and a herb garden with 'well-stocked humidor.'

Hotel Xenia is the newest of a number of design-led hotels which have launched in or around the South Kensington area recently.

The Ampersand Hotel opened last year following a £13m renovation of the Harrington Road venue. Apero, a modern Mediterranean restaurant inspired by Italian aperitivo, launched in the hotel soon after it opened.
