Peruvian stars of World's 50 Best to open new restaurant in London

Peruvian chefs Gastón Acurio and Virgilio Martínez, whose Lima-based restaurants both featured on this year’s World’s 50 Best list, have joined forces to launch a new restaurant in London later this year.

The pair announced details of the collaboration during a press party organized by the Peruvian tourist board PromPerú, after The World 50 Best Restaurants 2013,which took place on Monday (29 April).

“We want this new project to be an opportunity to captivate a much broader public of discerning food lovers but also to showcase the great culinary talent that is immersing from our country,” said Gaston – whose Astrid Y Gaston restaurant was this year’s Highest Climber, placing 14th on the list.

Martínez, who’s one-year-old Central restaurant was a New Entry on this year’s list at number 50, added: “The celebration tonight has been a huge success and I was surprised to find out how many guests had not tasted yet Peruvian food and were captivated by its rich colours, freshness and new tastes.

“This is what we want to promote further.”

The new, as-yet-unnamed restaurant will offer modern Peruvian cuisine, providing a platform for up-and-coming chefs from Peru to showcase their culinary talent in the capital. More details are expected to be announced soon.
