InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a franchise agreement with Fourshore to open the first Hotel Indigo in Brighton next year.

The 94-bedroom Hotel Indigo Brighton – New England Quarter is scheduled to open in early 2014 as part of a large mixed-use development on a site next to the train station in the East Sussex city.

A new build hotel, the Brighton Hotel Indigo will be the first property under the expanding brand to open south of London.

"The signing of the Hotel Indigo Brighton – New England Quarter, highlights the brand’s continued strong growth in Europe following its introduction to the region in 2009," said Robert Shepherd, IHG’s chief development officer Europe.

There are currently three hotels under the IHG boutique hotel concept in the capital as well as five more around the UK with plans for a further venue in Cardiff and a second property under the brand in Birmingham.

"It’s a testament to the strength of the brand, which combines the individuality of a boutique hotel with the reassurance and reliability of a big hotel company," Shepherd added. "Hotel Indigo is one of our newest brands and has been a great success. We opened our 50th hotel worldwide last year and have another 47 in the pipeline, 13 of which are in Europe."

Brighton

Known as IHG's boutique hotel brand, Hotel Indigo features properties which are designed individually in order to 'reflect the community, character and history of the surrounding area'. They all include free Wi-Fi throughout and a restaurant & bar open to both guests and locals.

James Gonzalez from Fourshore, which has signed a franchise agreement with IHG to operate the new hotel, said: “We’re excited to bring the vibrant Hotel Indigo brand to Brighton.

"Brighton is a lively town with a rich cultural heritage, having developed from a seaside village to the home of the eclectic artistic community that it is today.

"Hotel Indigo Brighton – New England Quarter will be ideally located within easy reach of the famous sea front and walking distance from the Lanes, where guests will find numerous shops and restaurants."

The first Brighton Hotel Indigo will reportedly take much of its design influence from the nearby railway arches and the artists that exhibit there and in the local area.

Earlier this year, IHG revealed it had grown its revenue per available room (RevPAR) by 2.5 per cent in the UK last year driven in part by new openings.
