JD Wetherspoon continues hotel openings with venues in Beccles and Whitby
The Watford-based company opened The King’s Head Hotel last week following a £2.38m refurbishment to upgrade the 20-bedroom venue.
Wetherspoon hotels
Another hotel is set to open later this month in Whitby on the site of the New Angel Inn on New Quay Road in the North Yorkshire town.
Speaking to BigHospitality, Eddie Gershon, a spokesperson for the famous pub company, said while there was no strategy in place, JD Wetherspoon was looking to add more hotels to its new pubs in the future.
"Our Wetherspoon hotels, which sit alongside our pubs, are extremely popular," he said.
"Wetherspoon does not have a strategy on hotels in the way it does with its pubs, however, if we purchase a site which has hotel provision or space to build a hotel, then we will always investigate the possibility of building a hotel.
"We would expect to open new hotels going forward," he added.
Beccles
Managed by Lee Utting, the new-look Beccles hotel will be open seven days a week and will feature a bar, pavement cafe-style area and beer garden as well as 20, mainly double, bedrooms, all featuring en-suite bathrooms.
Food will be served all day in the pub which will specialise in real ales, including from local and regional brewers.
A new, modern reception has been created from the former garages in the Grade II-listed building - a new cellar has also been built with a viewing window to show the cask ales being used by the pub.
"Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and hotel and we are confident that customers will be impressed by the transformation of the building," said Utting.
